Phentermine in CanadaPhentermine is an anti-obesity product, approved by Health Canada. For several years, Phentermine has been sold in Canada under Ionamin brand name.
License for Phentermine sale in Canada was issued to Sanofi-Aventis Company.
Canadian pharmacies were selling:
Ionamin (Phentermine) oral capsules 15mg
Ionamin (Phentermine) oral capsules 30mg
Sanofi-Aventis was the sole Phentermine capsules supplier in Canada.
When Sanofi-Aventis withdrew Phentermine from Canadian pharmaceutical market, this anti-obesity drug was no longer prescribed to obese Canadians.
It should be noted that besides Phentermine drug, Sanofi-Aventis has been selling in Canada another anorexigenic drug, Diethylpropion. As well as Phentermine, Diethylpropion is no longer being sold in Canadian pharmacies.
Phentermine capsules have been sold in Canada by prescription only (Controlled Drugs and Substances Act IV). Besides Phentermine, Canadian pharmacies have stopped selling many other anorexigenic anti-obesity products. For many years, obese Canadians have been indicated such anti-obesity drugs, as Sibutramine, Diethylpropion, Fenfluramine and Mazindol.
